If you are intrigued by the idea of ‘’No Dig’’ gardening; want to get some top tips for successful fruit and vegetable growing or simply want to find out more about Community Gardens then please join us for a walk and talk with Leonie Wootton from Sandgate Community Gardens on Sunday 5th September.

This walk and talk will start at 2pm outside the Sandgate Community Garden in Saga grounds before moving to Fremantle Park in Fremantle Road and finishing in The Golden Arrow in The Golden Valley for a chat over tea and coffee . (You may of course wish to drive from the Community Garden to Fremantle Park.)

The tour which will be led by Leonie will give us an opportunity to find out how the gardens developed so quickly over 2 years and to find out how a no dig garden for healthy, organic, seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables can be set up and planted in the course of a day. You will be able to ask questions and find out what really works including the principles of a no dig garden and how to avoid its pitfalls.

Leonie is the inaugurator of the Sandgate Community Gardens and has been growing fruit and vegetables all her life. She owned a small holding for 20 years and has also worked in a listed Kent Garden as well as in schools teaching children and adults how to grow fresh food and how to cook with the wonderful produce. Leonie has seen all the growing ‘fashions’ come and go, but feels passionately that ‘’No Dig “ just makes sense”!

The cost of the afternoon is £5 per person including post talk tea or coffee in the Golden Arrow and profits will go to Sandgate Community Gardens.
